Where do I shop?
While online shopping is very convenient, easy and usually cheaper when you know exactly what you want, I have found that there’s nothing better than having a local store that you can trust. Since my fixed gear days to now, I’ve done business with many shops in New York, especially New York City and Brooklyn. Here’s some of the shops I’ve gone to:
Tread Bike Shop – My local shop, very convenient and where I bought my road bike. It’s a very welcoming shop, carrying a good range of bikes, including Jamis, Specialized and Cannondale. Wide range of products and accessories at good prices. The staff is very friendly. The mechanics are excellent and quick, having assembled the Ultegra groupset when I bought it as well as installing all the components on the KTM.
R&A Cycles – The “creme de la creme” of bike shops, their selection and quality is incredible. Mostly caters towards the high-end bikers, but they carry a wide range of products. Their master fit specialist, Alberto, is very knowledgable and has helped me tremendously with fitting the bike to my needs. A must visit!
Sid’s Bikes – Great selection of bikes, both mountain and road. Used to frequent it more when I had my fixed gear since most of the mechanics rode fixed gear as well, they did some great work for me.
Bicycle Habitat – Big store with a wide selection of bikes, caters to almost anyone that rides a bicycle. Can get a little busy sometimes, but their customer service is very good and stock a wide range of products and accessories.
Competitive Cyclist – Probably one of the best websites to shop for road bike products. They carry a lot of brands, a lot of products and sometimes they have great sales. It has been my go-to online shop!
